ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, Hayes Brown has ranged east to the old Iron Curtain, south of the Equator, north of the Arctic Circle, west to the islands of the Pacific, and now resides with his wife and their cockapoo puppy in Silver Spring, Maryland. He holds an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Emory & Henry College, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He has edited three magazines and one anthology. His poems, stories, and essays appear infrequently in small press publications. His first book, Carhood: A Southern Memoir, published by Broken Watch Press in 1999, was nominated for a Benjamin Franklin Award. Hayes credits his novel, Booga, published in 2004, with shining light on the path he took to transcend his fifteen-year struggle with suicide. |
